Test Valley Aikido, Andover

Test Valley Aikido Club, in it’s current format, has been open since 2011, although it’s roots extend back to 2005. We welcome all adult students of all ages, regardless of fitness, skill level or previous experience - our range of students includes those whose first introduction to martial arts was joining our club, through to students who have over 15 years experience in other arts. We practice at two locations based in Andover.

Andy Devereux-Cooke, 4th dan

Andy has been practicing aikido since 1995, earning his Black belt 1st Dan in 2001 and has been teaching since that same year.

In his own words

Without question, my life would be a lot poorer if I didn’t practice aikido. As someone who has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (a condition that causes persistent fatigue (exhaustion) that affects everyday life and doesn't go away with sleep or rest), almost every other martial art would have been closed to me due to the amount of effort required. And while I won’t deny that the more effort you can put into your practice then the more you will get out of each lesson, I believe the fact that I have been able to reach the level I have means aikido is an incredibly efficient art. So it is in this way that I look to teach aikido, so that each student is able to get results that far exceed the effort that they are able to put in, just as I have been able to.
